Remove milk stains: Tips & tricks

Whether it was a messy breakfast day, a knocked-over glass, or a spilled bottle from feeding your baby, milk stains can happen! If you don’t treat them right away, the milk could start to sour and smell. Thankfully, it’s easy to get rid of them with Persil® products! Here’s how to remove milk stains quickly and easily.

3 simple steps for how to get milk stains out of clothes

There are really just a few basic steps to follow when dealing with milk stains:

  1. Blot the stain: For a fresh milk stain, it’s important to blot it so that you can remove as much excess milk as possible. Grab a clean cloth or a paper towel and very gently dab the stain, as this helps to remove milk stains much easier later on. Keep in mind that you don’t need to rub the fabric, but just blot softly. In fact, rubbing too vigorously can work the stain further into the fabric.
  2. Begin to soak the garment: Regardless of whether the stain is fresh or has dried, it’s still best to soak the clothing in a bowl of cold water. Do this for around 10 minutes, but be sure that the water is cold. Hot water may encourage the stain to set even more, making it harder to remove later! When the item has been soaked, it’s time to move on to washing.
  3. Pre-treat the stain: A key aspect of how to get rid of milk stains is pre-treating the stain before washing your clothes. There are some commercial stain removers available, but Persil® liquid detergents are already highly effective for pre-treatment. This way, you only need one product for both pre-treatment and the main wash. Simply pour a few drops of the detergent directly onto the milk stain and lightly work it in with an old toothbrush, for example. Then leave it to rest for a few minutes to allow the detergent to get to work.

The final step for how to remove milk stains from clothes

Now you’ll have to wash the item and finally remove milk stains for good. Select a wash cycle according to the instructions on your garment’s care label and pick a strong detergent that can finish the job. Persil® Advanced Clean Oxi+Odor Power is highly recommended for any really tough milk stains, like those that have already dried.

Once the wash cycle has ended, check to see if the milk stain is gone, otherwise complete the above steps again. When it to comes to remove milk stains and washing children’s clothes, working quickly will give you a much better chance of getting rid of the stain completely.
