It happens to the best of us – one minute you’re relaxing with friends over a cool beer, and the next you end up spilling it down your best sweater! Luckily, removing beer stains is easier than you might think. All you need is some Persil® detergent and a little know-how. Read on to learn how to remove beer stains from clothes.
- Blot the stain with a clean, dry cloth in order to soak up as much excess beer as possible.
- Rinse the stain from the inside of the garment. The goal here is to help flush the beer stain out from whence it came. Note: Use cold water, since hot water will cause the beer stain to set!
- Pre-treat the stain by pouring a little bit of Persil® detergent onto it. For heavily stained items – caused by strong and dark beers such as stouts or porters, for example – we recommend using Persil® Advanced Clean Oxi+Odor Power.
- Wash your clothes as usual, making sure to use the correct detergent dosage.
Although the standard method should work most times, beer stains that have dried out can be pretty stubborn. If there’s still a beer stain on your clothes, it’s best to simply repeat the process – be patient! Beer in particular often leaves a pungent smell when it dries on clothes, so we also recommend using our Advanced Clean Oxi+Odor Power detergent for the wash cycle this time around in order to combat the smell.
Again, the standard method above is effective for the vast majority of clothing types. However, not all fabrics are made alike, especially delicate fabrics such as wool, rayon and silk. For this reason, it pays to proceed with caution when removing beer stains to ensure your clothes stay in tip-top shape. Here are three quick tips to do just that:
- Do a quick spot check beforehand to ensure your chosen detergent is suitable. While Persil® products are designed to be suitable for all your day-to-day laundry needs, it never hurts to be extra sure. Simply apply a small amount of the detergent to a discreet patch of your clothing.
- Take extra care not to rub or scrub the fabric when pre-treating a stain. Instead, always blot carefully.
- Pay close attention to the instructions and laundry symbols on the care label. When figuring out how to get beer stains out of your clothes, it can be tempting to simply set your washing machine to hot – resist this temptation and never go above the recommended washing temperature!
